Setup Guides

Setup guides will get admins up and running with some of the most popular EMM features available today, including Apples Device Enrollment Program (DEP) and Android Enterprise.

Android Enterprise

Google Zero Touch Enrollment

With Android 8.0 (Oreo), Google has introduced zero touch provisioning for Android devices.  This service will be provided by partners, and as of the time of this article, all the setup of the zero touch portal will be done by these partners, as well as addition of supported devices in to the portal. (NOTE: Please talk to your carrier or other zero touch partner about supported devices)

Zero touch will allow admins to configure devices to install and force enrollment as part of the setup and activation of supported devices.  There will also be the ability for admins to pre-determine enrollment credentials for a true zero touch provisioning process.

To get started, load the Google zero touch portal, and create a new configuration.  Be sure to make MaaS360 MDM for Android the EMM DPC (Device Policy Controller)

Configuring Enrollment Credentials

For devices to enroll automatically we must first configure a JSON file that will carry the credentials down to the devices (Note: Multiple configurations can be created in the zero touch portal, and assigned to different devices.  This will allow for multiple profiles, and/or multiple different enrollment experiences)

  • In MaaS360 navigate to Devices-->Enrollments-->Other Enrollment Options-->Android Enterprise Zero Touch Enrollment
  • Fill out the credentials, and save the generated JSON
  • Open the JSON in a text editor, copy and paste the text exactly as it appears in to the "DPC Extras" field of the zero touch configuration

Upon creating the configuration, it can be assigned to devices for deployment.  When devices are activated, they will enter Device Owner mode as part of activation, and standard DO enrollment will take over if no configuration JSON was present in the config (refer to the enrollment guides in the parent article).
